I use softlist to generate the rafter lengths and then put notes across each set of rafters to identify their lengths using the shortest possible. You can tell a good builder by the size of his scrap pile. Just remember that it is an exact number and you have to add for waste and culls. Softlist is a great starting point for my material takeoffs and saves me lots of time and headaches. Shoot me an email if you want to see more.įor the hips, I use plan view of rafters, count the number of rafters and order half that amount. I give the actual color coded takeoff with sizes to the framers so that they know what materials to use where. The roof pitch can also be factored in when using the Joist/Rafter Tool. To do what you are talking about I use Planswift. You might even mention what size is common on most sites
Why not send a suggestion about the file size to The lengths do not have to be exact but general so the framer with know what materials to cut each one from. If I am able to get this list I can manually transfer it to the members before I print out the plan.
I know you can ID each one and assume you can print out this list of them but am at a lose on how to do this. I have designed a roof and to quicken my take off and give my framers a general cut sheet on the print to work from I would like to put the rafter lengths on each framing member. Ok guys and ladies have a question on rafter details.
